Sexual dysfunction and the sexual reaction series

Sexual problem arises at any stage throughout the sexual reaction series.  The couple or person does not experience enjoyment or pleasure from their sexual performance.  Here are the stages in the series:

  • Excitement.  This is the first phase that couples do prior to sexual contact.  They perform things that will arouse both of them so that lubrication and stimulation is easily achieved by both male and female.  Arousing each other through mutual fondling and caressing, known as love play helps the male penis become erected and it will be easy for it to penetrate deeply into the vagina.
  • Plateau.  This is the stage wherein the level of stability is already achieved.  Both are ready to feel the sensation of their lovemaking.
  • Orgasm.  This is the climax of the sexual contact.  The male seminal vesicles, prostate and ejaculatory duct contract so as to force the semen into the urethra or tube of the penis, then into the vagina.
  • Resolution.  This is the stage wherein the mutual orgasm comes to an end.  The couple is already relaxed and may fall asleep.

Although studies showed that sexual problem is a very usual happening to both genders, it is a subject that many individuals avoided talking about.  If only people who are suffering from sexual problem will be more open in discussing the matters to their physician and even to their partners, their sexual problem can be treated.
